Meet John Wittorf, EMEA Managing Partner
At Beecher Reagan our team is our differentiator; their knowledge and commitment drive the firm’s successful outcomes. Our team makes Beecher Reagan the innovative, focused and engaged firm we are. We pride ourselves in having a workplace that is exciting, fun and provides value to our clients and candidates.
Meet John Wittorf, our EMEA Managing Partner who is based out of London.
John, Tell us a little about yourself.
I was born and raised in Houston, TX, married my wife Lyana in 2011 and we have 2 children ages 5 and 3. I also am one of 5 kids. I have 2 brothers, 2 sisters and 12 nieces and nephews.
What prompted you and your family to make such a big move?
From a personal perspective, I played football on a men’s league team in Houston. My teammates were expats in the Oil & Gas industry from the UK, mostly from Aberdeen, Scotland. They were a big motivating factor to get outside of my comfort zone. From a business perspective, the chance to gain a larger global footprint was a no brainer.
Why did you choose a career in executive search?
I was leading business development for an oil and gas staffing firm in Houston when Tim Reagan called me. At the time one of my best friends was a rising star at McKinsey in their Houston office and referred Tim to me. I was immediately fascinated by the focus Beecher Reagan had on Executive Search and knew I wanted to give it a shot. That was 9 years ago and the best career decision I have ever made.
What is the biggest challenge you face in the search industry?
Most challenges are opportunities in disguise. The search industry has an opportunity to continue to innovate with the world around us. The firms who refuse to adapt will be left behind and the ones who push the envelope around innovation will partner with the best clients out there.
What do you wish you would have known when you started out in executive search?
Learning the consulting industry was like going back to college, but no one had any cliff notes. There is no magical piece of information one can know to make this space easy. To be great it takes intellectual curiosity, time and patience.
What are you most excited for in the new London Office?
Hiring local talent who will continue the Beecher Reagan brand in perpetuity.
What is your favorite part of your role at Beecher Reagan?
Connecting people, I am passionate about networking and I hope that comes to life in every conversation I have with our candidates and our clients.
What is working at Beecher Reagan like?
Working at a premier niche executive search firm has a unique set of opportunities and challenges. Beecher Reagan is like working for a start up that has been around for 20 years. We are fast paced just like a startup but have a well-known brand in our space. You can write your own story here, it is what you make of it. The founders are entrepreneurs and they value everyone’s ideas.
Describe Beecher Reagan in 3 words.
Fun, collaborative and rewarding.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
I enjoy spending time with my wife and children, playing and watching football. My children are developing the same love for the game as I have; our favorite EPL team is Chelsea.
